24 Hour Deep-Dive

Over the course of the past 24 hours, I’ve had the chance to observe and engage with news/political content from the far-right. To provide some context, I would consider myself to be a left-leaning individual, with a grasp of the current political spectrum. In all honesty, I wasn’t too shocked by the type of content that I found. From my knowledge, a lot of the political far-right agenda consists of misinformation and tyranny. A large portion of content aligned themselves with issues like All-lives matter, the majority of the political debate defamed Joe Biden’s campaign and encouraged the casualties of Trump’s long-winded coronavirus debate. I think in part, what scares me the most, is the extreme lack of fact-checking and palpability behind political statements. To which, those who engage with certain content have the ability to be swayed by misleading statements.

In large part, I found it interesting the amount of support that was given to often misleading ideals. One article supported Donald’s Trump usage of tax credits, despite only paying $750 in taxes over the past year. Not only does this show a flaw in the system, but it devalues the premise of modern-day media. Media is supposed to be ambiguous and unrestricted, not playing to the tune of a billionaire’s fiddle. In all honesty, it is disgusting that the States has permitted someone like Trump to forego paying a large portion of his taxes, as the narrative he protects is that of the wealthy. It is particularly interesting when we note that Trump’s funding is mostly from fellow billionaires, as he defends his own tax bracket. The most harrowing experience of this whole journey is that it does not stop at Trump’s bigotry. Nor, does it stop at defaming/encouraging uneducated and unrefined statements political statements. To the same effect, previous governments continue to endorse Trump as his reign does not seem to end. Reagan and the Bush administration “endorse trump, citing foreign policy accomplishments”. In my opinion, it is utterly distressing to see how much an elected body can get away with, citing their failures as successes.

During Trump’s reign, we have seen misinformation and lies being spread. Particular to Coronavirus, the idea that Trump does not need to ensure the health and safety of his people as long as he assures the general populous that he is the better candidate. Like the Trump/Hillary election, he hones in on a general topic and redirects all narratives to a particular source. If there is anything that is opposing his narrative, he cites that as fake news. To which, his supporters tend to believe, as they are so far-strung along with the idea that they are close to salvation. Yet, protests and civil unrest brews in many states. The issue is, how long does Trump encourage the stratification of both the left and right, until the lives of his people are at risk. Nonetheless, they are not Trump’s people, rather the people of America. An America that he has failed, on both a social and economic level.
